"Jimmy don't like that" reveals the Newsboy Legion as the kid who got too excited at the birthday party. They're really trying to calm down, but they tend to start mumbling about something just thought of that occurred yesterday or laugh uncomfortably at a joke told that fell flat. On their new CD, the Legion offer up their funny pain, falling over the furniture in middle fidelity bursts of rock, sincere in its obscure and enthusiastic personal symbolism. They've excitedly searched through the garbage dump of forgotten culture for pieces that might fit into their jigsaw puzzles, helping them express themselves, and they're anxious at the chance to share it. It's distorted guitars, bass, drums and noise, experimental garage, feet nervously pumping, teeth grinding, not wanting to go home yet though you know you're tired.

The Legions' "pop record" (and we use this phrase very loosely), "Jimmy" has earned a reputation as a cult favorite in certain corners. It's almost accessible.

"The new EP is classic Newsboy Legion, full of quirky but wonderful music combined with twisted, obtuse lyrics that are out of this world. It's an amazing pop confection that draws on everything from The Who to The Kinks to Cheap Trick to the Beach Boys - all of them locked in a closet with Salvador Dali and a bunch of dadaists."
-- Mr. Cheeez, Break Magazine

"...this disc falls into my favorite category of music: funny stuff that isn't stupid."
